General

Design data is presented for Z sections and Sigma sections in a tabular format to assist engineers who are designing light gauge steelwork in accordance with EN 1993‑1‑3:2006 [1], EN 1993-1-1:2005 [2] and EN 1993-1-5:2006 [3] and their respective National Annexes.

The symbols used are generally the same as those used in these Standards or the referred product Standards.

1.1 Material and tolerances

Light steel members are cold-formed from hot-dip galvanized strip steel, which is supplied to the section manufacturers as pre-galvanized coil conforming to EN 10346:2015 [4]. A new version of this standard will be published in 2025 and will introduce new steel grades like S650GD & S700GD.

Dimensions and tolerances are specified in EN 10143:2006 [5].

1.2 Steel grades and coatings

ArcelorMittal offers the following hot dip galvanised steel grades:

For construction applications, ArcelorMittal offers a full range of coatings for Construction Steels and High Strength Low Alloy steels according to EN 10346:2025 (see the hot dip galvanised steels catalogue).

Different coatings are available for different environments including:
